can't change input language in word

after making sure all the boxes are appropriately checked and all the
languages i need are loaded onto my laptop, the language bar is STILL not
coming up when i open word. i've redone it, i've followed every step in the
help section, and i've restarted my computer multiple times. no language
bar, and no little blue box at the bottom with the EN in it like there should
be. i have windows xp, and i need help!
