can't boot from CD to reformat hd

In reformatting the hd, I put the XP Home OS CD drive in. After restarting,
when F12 appears, I click on that. Next up the it asks which device to boot
from. I select "Boot from CD." Some files automatically load. The next
screen says, "Welcome to Setup." It asks for a selection of "Enter" which
will start the setup process; R which will repair the Windows XP, or F3 to
cancel.

Problem: When I reach the "Welcome to Setup" screen, none of the three
options work. How can I get Windows XP to boot from the CD?

(I have successfully reformatted the hd before and not had this problem.)

Thanks, Chris. The article you referred me to suggests making a set of six
Boot disks using floppies. I attempted to do this, but the amount to be
downloaded exceeds the capacity of a HD floppy. The program that downloads
to the floppies aborts during downloading to the first floppy.

Additional suggestions are welcome, and needed !

Hi Joan,

This is one of those articles you almost have to read through first, before
attempting anything. I should have told you that. It *is* one of the best
how-to's written.

If you scroll down a bit further from the 6 boot disk scenario you will see:

"Another option to the floppy disk set
from

Dr. D's

Windows XP System Setup Disk"

You use this if you can't boot from your CD. It is just a single floppy. I
suggest you read it through so you know what to expect.

Good luck, and post back.

By None of the 3 options work..
do you mean that when you hit enter/F3/or R on the Keyboard nothing
happens..
Do you have a USB keyboard??
There is a setting in the BIOS to turn on "legacy Support" for USB
Keyboards.....is yours turned on??
