>> How can I force my pc to boot from CD ?

This is strange - I have some kind of driver issue which, combined
with other things, is forcing me to do a fresh install of XP. Here's
my problem - when I boot with the XP cd in the drive, it doesn't
boot. What does happen is that I get the Bios POST and then the XP
splash screen. At the splash screen, XP hangs and never boots - the
Knight Rider loader just scans and scans - my goal is simply to get XP
to boot from the cd so I can reformat.

I have gone into the setup and made sure boot sequence has cd first -
I have even tried disabling all the hard drives with no success.

Additionally I cannot F8 into the boot screen either.

Any help on this ?

Have you a floppy installed, try to boot to that.
does the bios see the cd drive? it's not SATA is it?
When do you press f8 to get the boot menu, possibly it's a timing issue, or
do you even get the boot menu?

It's not a genuine bootable WinXP disk?!?!?

Can another machine boot to your WinXP cd?

Good Luck.

If it's not booting from the CD drive and the BIOS is set to have the
CD first in the boot order, there are only two possibilities:

1. The CD you are using isn't bootable.

2. There's something wrong with the drive.

To find out which is the case, try another known bootable CD in the
drive, and try to boot from your CD in a friend's computer.
