Using Startup Disk with SATA HD's???

How do you boot to a SATA HD using the Windows XP CD or an emergency startup
floppy disk? I'm trying a possible fix for a "boot to windows" problem that
recommends booting with the Win CD, but can't access "C:" which is on a SATA
HD. When I boot using the Win CD and get to the "Welcome to Setup" screen,
I'm supposed to press "R" to start the Recovery Console. When I press "R" it
says it cannot find the Drive.

Thanks for your help.

Before you get to the 'R' stage, you need to load the controller
drivers... this is done in the first part when the cd loads... it prompts
you to hit F6... do that and supply the drivers on a floppy. You can get
these off the manufacturer's website generally. Note, you don't want the
drivers for you hard drive, you want them for your sata controller.

Thanks for the help Stefan,

I installed the Sata Drive Controller files when I first installed WinXP.
Do I have to do it each time I want to boot using the Win CD or Boot Floppy?

If you boot from cd, the cd will be unaware of the origonal o/s, as its
using files from th cd.
You can slipstream the sata/raid controler drivers into a new installation
cd.

Yes, unfortunately the CD is unaware of the specific drivers you are
using, so you'd have to provide them each time.

Optionally you can slipstream them into an xp installation... but honestly
i doubt it is really worth the hassle.... unless you need to fix your pc
so frequently that is :)
