Hi,

I can't access msinfo32.exe : when I try I get the ms help center screen.
Msinfo32.exe is in correct place and properties indicate correct name.
Have replaced that with copy of it from an image of c partition made several
months ago : no change.

Don't have Win XP cd at hand to do an expand from CD, but I doubt this would
help ( since restore from an early image doesn't help)

Replacing from my son's PC doesn't help either ( although on his PC it is OK
( as it was earlier on mine))

Anyone a brilliant idea ( befor I do a complete image restore) ?

Thanks
Phil

Hi, Phil.

I just answered this question for you. Was it in a different newsgroup?

Well, no, you were asking about msconfig32.exe in the other message and it
WAS here in xp.general.

Google turns up plenty of hits for msconfig32, and it looks suspiciously
like you might have a Trojan there.

Msinfo32.exe is a valid file, of course, and should present you (after
several seconds delay) with an extensive listing of information about your
particular computer in a series of screens starting with System Information.

I don't know what might have gone wrong with msinfo32.exe on your computer.
Have you run the System File Checker? (Run: sfc /scannow - but it probably
will want to see the WinXP CD.)

In case it might help you track down the problem: My search in \Windows for
msinfo*.* gets 11 files, including 6 for msinfo32.*, but only one
msinfo32.exe, and that is in \Windows\system32\dllcache. It is 39,936
bytes, dated 8/23/01. The others have extensions of .inf, .PNF, .chm and
..hlp.

Let us know what you find out, Phil. In a newsgroup, we all learn from each
other.

None of the two manoeuvers did work. Still get MS Help Center.
