Msinfo32.exe won't display

I run a hp Paviliona320n with WinXP and up to about 10 days ago I could view
Msinfo32.exe with NO problems.
But it seems now its gone into deep hiding , as I can't get it to appear if
I try to open it. If I run a search for Msinfo32.exe
it displays two versions the first (with a WinXP icon) that's located in
C:\Program Files\Common Files\..... , and
the second version (4.20.2000)which is from my installation of my old
Microsoft Word program. It only displays those
components pertaining to Word and nothing else, note to that this version
showed up after I had installed Microsoft Word
2000 and is not related to my problem.
If I try to open msinfo32.exe within the Search window , or any other
location i.e. in the "Help and Support Center" window
it seems to just Loop back and opens the "Help and Support Center" window
again.
My question is do I have an invalid shortcut or something missing in my
registry, and if so does anybody have any logical
way of restoring it. I've run sfc and all files seems ok as I received no
error or info message back.
If anyone has any logical solutions , short of just Reformat and reinstall
WinXP , I would greatly appreciate their
HELP... .

It may be that the installation of the Word version has changed the path
reference for it in the registry to point to that. You can fix that, if
it is what has happened, by running regedit.exe (with care). Open to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\App Paths
and look for the next level key msinfo32

Highlight it and in the right pane double click on Default and set to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\MSInfo32.exe
and double click on Path and set to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo

Thanks Alex for your quick input.
I checked out that registry location (msinfo32.exe) as you described
and its all there word for word so that's not the problem. Further more
I was having this problem prior to installing my old version of Office2000
on my new HP.
I did a search for msinfo32.exe and right clicked properties and it shows
it as version 5.1.2.2600.0 . I'm wondering if this is the proper version
I should be running on my WinXP SP1 OS ?
