Can't access "internet options" from within IE6

When I try to access Tools/Internet Options in IE 6.0 I get the following message. "this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact system administrator." This computer is on a P2P network and there is no Administrator. I did not get this message until recently and as far as I know nothing has been added or subtracted from this computer

Use Regedit.exe and search for NoBrowserOptions and remove it.
It is most likely to be here (but not necessarily)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Restrictions
If you are unfamiliar with Regedit, then ensure you know how to
restore your Registry in case of error and it is a good to export any
key before deleting.

Check the startup (Start-Run-MSCONFIG-Startup tab) for any unknown
items if it is reset on reboot.

You might try this snippet from Mike Burgess first if you use SpyBot:
'Did you by chance run SpyBot's Immunize feature?
If so, you can unlock by unchecking the option to "Protect IE Control
Panel" '

If you use Spybot S&D, open Spybot in Advanced mode and check the Immunize
settings. You may have placed this restriction inadvertently.

If not ... go to Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Scroll down to
"Various Registry Fixes"

Next (same page) check for parasites and other malware which may have caused
this, if Spybot didn't.

.i had the same problem:
www.pestscan.com.
use this. ITS WILL SCAN FROM ONLINE AND TELL YOU WHERE THE
HIJACK file is located.
the file that causes this problem is located DEEP within
the
registry. run a scan see the results just click the plus
sign onn the results scan list. it will show you where in
the registry the location of the file.
the paid program Pestscan Pro will remove them.
if you donot chose to get the paid version, edit the
registry via regedit in XP.
note:Going in the regisrty is For experienced people.
Back up the regisrty befor editing it.
Also Delete the COOKIES in the cookie directory also.
goodluck and happy surfing.
