can't access display properties

whenever i try to access display property by right
clicking in the desktop, it gives me an error message
saying:
"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

What changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?
Try updating your video card drivers. Post back with more details about
your system for more help.
