Cannot start Windows Firewall service using SP2

Hi,

After reinstall my Windows XP Home using a CD with SP2,
I couldn't start the Windows Firewall. It gave the message:

"Could not start the Windows Firewall/ ICS service on Local Computer.
Error 10047 : An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used."

Previously, I was using Windows XP Home with no SPs and the builtin firewall
is working.

-- Thanks in advance.

Try this:

Click Start, Run, cmd <enter>

Type in: netsh winsock reset <enter>

Wait...

Follow the instructions and then reboot.

Why was it necessary to reinstall WinXP? Did you format before
reinstalling?

Did the WinXP SP2 CD come with the machine-in-question or another machine?

Why hadn't you installed any Service Packs prior to the reinstall? What
anti-virus application was installed prior to the reinstall? What
anti-virus application is currently installed and is it functional?

If this is in fact the error, and all you did was reload Windows XP -
going to SP2, Windows was not loaded correctly.
Assuming this is an OEM disk and you used your XP product key, you
should boot to the disk, delete all partitions, then set Windows up on
un-partitioned space (the setup disk will create partition and format).
You should get NO errors during setup. If you do. STOP. You have one or
more of the following; a bad disk, bad RAM, bad optical drive, bad data
cable, bad hard drive or bad CPU.
Once the Operating System is on the hard drive, go to device manager
(rt click "my computer" ->hardware ->device manager) and assure you have
network adapters installed (for your high speed Internet connection). If
not, you must install your network driver. Once you have that driver, go
to the computers manufacturer's home page ->support and find the latest
drivers for your model. If it is a custom machine, get the latest
drivers from the motherboard's manufacture. Once you have all the
drivers installed, get all the Windows updates. You will have to cycle
about 4 times to get them all. After this is accomplished. Then report
your firewall status.
Thank You,

Note that a "damaged" anti-virus / Internet access security software
will rendered the Windows Measurement Instrumentation system (WMI)
broken. When the WMI system is broken, the Windows XP may not start
the Security Centre service correctly thus not letting the firewall to
work.

What is your anti-virus system / Internet protection software? I just
"recovered" from an extreme Norton Internet Security 2009 corruption.
I had to completely remove all my "Norton" based software packages and
run their enhanced removal tool (NRT) before doing a repair reinstall.
