Windows Firewall Service will not start

I have a laptop and I thought the firewall was working Ok until I started to
get messages that I did not have a firewall. In checking Services, the
Windows Firewall service is not started and I get the following message:

Could not start the Windows Firewall/ICS on local computer.
Error 10047: An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used.

I tried to reinstall SP2 and the service still will not start.

Thanks, Larry

That error message is not documented anywhere that I can find.

I suspect that a virus/spyware item may be interfering with the
firewall and preventing it from starting.

Make certain your antivirus software is completely up to date and do a
full virus scan of your computer. Then get a second opinion with one
of the following free online virus scans:

Also check for spyware by following MVP Jim Eshelman's Spyware Quick
Fix Protocol at http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

Good luck

Didn't say what software I uninstalled. Microsoft Beta Spyware caused the
problem

The key word is "beta" and the basic definition of beta software is
"too full of bug to be released".

Glad you were able to solve the problem.
