I have the same problem I keep seeing here. Error message 0x800CCC0F
I run McAfee antivirus.
I have two PC's, a laptop and a desktop. Both run Windows Vista/Mail and
both are set up identically. The desktop works properly but the laptop
hasn't been able to send mail sent we put in the Vista updates on 06/13/08.
We use a wirelss router for service and have the same email account on both
pc's. The laptop is a Toshiba.

McAfee is incompatible with Windows Vista, you need to remove it and replace
it with a product that is compatible. Make sure the uninstall of McAfee is
followed up by using their debris removal tool. Both McAfee and Norton leave
a lot of crud behind when you uninstall them:

How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee consumer products using the
McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe)

Compatible products include Avast!, AVG, and NOD32. Even with these
products, you must NOT install their email scanning modules as NO email
scanners are compatible with Vista. You do not need email scanning anyway,
it is redundant, it does nothing but cause problems, and your system is
fully protected without it, provided you keep the file system scanner up to
date.

I use McAfee and have no problems with it and i have vista windows. so
go figure. seems like windows live mail always having some kind of a
problem

Windows Live Mail is less sensitive to problems caused by antivirus
programs than Windows Mail, the program usually discussed in this
newsgroup.

Has absolutely ZERO to do with Windows Live Mail. Look around the forums a
little, this problem affects Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, Outlook
Express, Office Outlook, Eudora, Thunderbird, and EVERY other email client
on the face of this planet. Consider yourself lucky and you might say a
prayer every now and then asking that you remain trouble free. The odds are
against you...

Stop error message when you send or receive e-mail messages on a Windows
Vista-based computer that has e-mail scanning software installed:
"STOP:0x1000008E KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M"

Not seeing this? Keep McAfee setup to scan your email and just wait a
while...

Check if the list of installed programs on the laptop includes either SMS
Desktop
or Google Toolbar. If it does, uninstall them. Toshiba computers often
come
with SMS Desktop already installed, even though it causes problems in
Windows
Mail. Web sites that let you do a Google search are not a problem.

Besides the antivirus issue Hal mentioned, Toshiba laptops come with
a program named something like SMS Desktop. It needs to be uninstalled
because it is incompatible with Windows Mail. Another incompatible
program is Google Desktop.

The incompatibility with the antivirus program doesn't show up
immediately. Sometimes it takes several months, depending on
how many virus emails are found.

Note that Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail are two different
email programs with different issues.

Thank you so much for the help. It was the Google desktop that was causing
the problem. I removed it and everything seems to be good now.

You're welcome. Thanks for your feedback.

Hi - I have deleted SMS desktop, don't have google toolbar and have norton
anti-virus. I have a Toshiba laptop and cannot send e-mails and also cannot
delete some e-mails, although the PC that runs on the same network is fine.
Please help! I'm fairly PC literate! Judi

Norton antivirus is one of the three that often cause problems with
Windows Mail. As a first step, make sure the antivirus does not scan
emails. If no improvement, do a trial uninstall of the antivirus, then
follow up with their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Inability to delete some emails is a result of corruption caused by the
antivirus. To fix that, see this Microsoft article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090
Although it only mentions Outbox, it works for all mail folders.

If you like, we can recommend a compatible free antivirus.

As an alternative to uninstalling Norton, you can upgrade to Windows
Live Mail (WLM), which is less prone to corruption from antivirus activity:
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview
Even with WLM, email scanning by the antivirus must be disabled.

Another satisfied WLM user! Thanks for your feedback.
