Cannot retireve fax server info

I tired to fax a document from MSWord 2003. When the Fax Wizard pops up,
after hitting next, I get the following message:
"Error message: Fax server information cannot be
retrieved. The Fax wizard will close nowretrieve fax server info".
This usually causes Word to hang reuiring me to use the Microsoft salute to
clear it. I tried the solutions proposed by Hal Hostetler to Benzman on
August 7 but I still get the error message. Device Manager indicates all is
well as does the US Robotics applet. Suggestions?

State exactly what solutions you tried and what happened.
State how you configured the fax service to use your modem and whether it
ever worked.
State the status of the Fax Service.
Open the Fax Console > Tools > Fax Printer Status and state what is
reported.

Solution: Fix & Repair Windows Compnents; Device MAnager Troubleshooting
Configured:Use dial-up modem on COM3 in PCI slot; worked great until next to
last MS Patch (kind of what happened to IE7)
Status: That's a trick. Nothing buit a blank window. Oh wait. Status =
connecting.
Keep waiting.
Wait some more. You're done yet.
Yawn, is it time to get up already?

Other fax software works just fine, which was installed AFTER MS fax crapped
out.

Are you saying you used the solutions here?

If so, which one and what happened? And you claim it never worked with fax?

I answered your question so I fail to see how there is no useful info.
Yes I used the KB article fix. If you had read the first response you would
have seen MS Fax quit working AFTER I installed the pacthes that came out in
July, the same patches that fouled up IE7. I used the hot fix.

I've seen no similar reports. I'm not sure how that hotfix would have
applied since you had already had your fax service installed and working
correctly. It would be good to post precise steps to repro including which
patch you installed to see if anyone else has experienced similar problems.
