Cannot replace ink cartridge for Epson Stylus C40 UX...

My Epson printer warned about low ink level for the black color cartridge
and soon there was no black color left to print anything with. I went to buy
a new one but was not very observant when they gave me a color cartridge
only. When I followed the instructions pressing the right button on the
printer the black cartridge came in place to remove it and replace it. It
was then I realized than I didn't have any black cartridge to replace it
with so I put the empty cartridge back and went to but a new black ink
cartridge. But now I can find no way to get the cartridges in position for
replacing neither the black one nor the color cartridge. And the Epson
Status Monitor software says I have more than a half full black ink
cartridge though it is still emtpy and I can get no ink out of it no matter
how many times I run the head cleaning procedure.

The manual also says I should not try to move the printer heads manually
since it can damage the printer... It seems they rely a bit too much on
their hardware/software not allowing me to manually replace ink cartridges
when he status monitor says there is ink left. Since the status monitor is
wrong now I have to replace it anyway... Can anyone help me with this?

Hi,
C40 has no way to detect, if the old cartridge was removed and a new one
inserted during an ink change procedure, so every attempt to replacing
ends up with ink counters reset (regardless if the cartridge was even
physically removed).

You can force the ink change AFAIR from the printer driver (the last tab -
utilities).

With the C20, simply hold down the red button for quite a few seconds, until
eventually the cartridges will move and the black cartridge will stop at the
exchange position. Another quick press moves the colour cartridge to the
exchange position, and the next quick press puts the printer back into the
charge cycle ready for printing. I think this info is in the manual (but
not easy to find).

The C40 may be similar...

Thank you! That worked for me also when I did exactly as you described it!
Great!
