Cannot remove an attendee who is also the appointmentorganizerr

I'm having trouble fixing a users appointment where they created a reoccurring appointment and added themselves as an attendee as well. The user now wants to be removed from the appointment but stay as the organizer and change the length of the appointment but when they go to edit the appointment there are no options available to select do any edits. I asked them to just delete the appointment and resubmit it but they do not like to do that because of the amount of other attendees who will have to re accept another appointment. Any suggestions?

Have they tried removing themself from the Scheduling tab list of attendees?
Do they show up both as organizer and attendee?
