Cannot print from a window XP computer to a shared printer on a Windows 2000 co

In a small office environment we have a small workgroup
established. The office printer in setup and configured
(LPT1 port) on a Windows 2000 machine. It is then shared
out so others may printer to it. My two new Windows XP
home edition machines will not print to the shared
printer on the Win2K machine. When I set it up, it asks
for a login and password and then prints. Once I restart
the machine, the printer is available but the status
states: "Access denied, unable to connect." What is the
resolution?

These two new XP machines probably have no matching accounts on the Win2K
box. Are you able to view shared folders on the Win2K box from the XP
machines without having to first provide a password?

There are two approaches to fixing this. And the information I am giving is
based on a huge number of hours researching this and similar problems.

In the Administrative Tools Control Panel, Computer Management sub-panel,
Local Users and Groups, Users:

1) Take an inventory of all users on your LAN. On the Win2K box, add these
users.

2) If the Guest account is disabled, enable it.

I hope that solves your problem.
