Hi , you could try to reinstall from your xp disc but will need to back up your system first. However most security experts will tell you that Internet Explorer and Outlook Express are just not safe to use .I don't bother with either any more, go to a site like Download .com and get a different browser and email client. I have used eudora 6.1 for email which works well, but have now changed to Mozilla Firefox(browser0 and Mozilla Thunderbird (email) they are free and are very fast and easy to use ,once you change you will not look back.

Adrian - how was that post in the least bit helpful?! There is one very
important thing that OE can do that Thunderbird can't and that's upload and
download and combine multi-part binary postings. So, if the OP posts to -
and downloads from - binary groups then Thunderbird will be useless.

And I don't know who these "security experts" are, but OE is no less safe
than Thunderbird, Agent or any other newsreader. Also, reinstalling the OS
is almost *NEVER* necessary - let me guess you used to work for one of those
'support' desks that responded to questions he didn't know the answer to by
"reinstall Windows". It certainly isn't necessary in this case.

The OP should begin by running the system file checker (SFC) by typing
sfc.exe /scannow in the run box (Start > Run). They may be prompted to
insert their Windows CD. They should do so and let Windows run its scan.
This should replace the corrupted file with the one from the CD and all
should be well.
