cannot logon to xp pro! logs off after logon...

My XP PRO now, logs off automatically after log on...

How can I solve this?

This is the sequence:

LOGON SCREEN
LOGGING ON
LOADING PERSONAL SETTINGS
LOGGING OFF
SAVING YOUR SETTINGS
LOGON SCREEN again

I have exactly the same problem with WinXP prof but cannot
access the web page you quote which provides the solution.
Can you (or anyone else) PLEASE tell me where I can find
the solution to this problem...or indeed what the solution
is !

check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and make sure Userinit value is listed. Data field should be c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe. If that value isn't there and you need to create it, use String Value when you create it.

STEPS BELOW:

1) Put in your XP disk (just the normal one)

2)Restart your computer

3) when the screen comes up with white writting and black background press ENTER within 2 seconds!!

4)then take it from there and follow the steps and you will not lose any data at all!
