After a crash with a game (GTA-Vice City) and a reboot I was unable to log on
(XP Pro SP1) receiving the following error
message "The system cannot log you on now because the domain <DomainName> is
not available". According to KB 824302 there is a hotfix available, but it is
only recommended if you are severely affected by this problem. The
recommendation is to wait for the next service pack. I installed XP a year
ago and it was the first time the problem occurred (the crash happens more
often) so I just want to log on and upgrade to SP2. The computer is a member
of a NT domain, actually a Linux server running SAMBA. In the log on screen I
can choose for the NT domain or the name of the computer. The error occurs
for both domains. It is also impossible to log on as administrator on the
local machine. Log on in safe mode does not help, because the same log on
screen appears. I can log on as administrator in the recovery console, but
what can I do there to solve this problem?
Anyone a solution?
