Then logon to the machine locally - not using a domain account; use the
local Administrator account. The password was set during install - or it
may be blank.

Mike & Sgt. Eddie;

I too am seeing this error only with Windows XP Pro.

I've located KB article 824302 and it mentions a hotfix
that will take care of the problem. However the article
is very ambiguous about how to apply this hotfix (or where
to download it from). I think it has something to do with
a Msv1_0.dll file.

Can either of you shed some light on this for me? Any
advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave Z

There is no ambiguity in how you obtain the hotfix it is clearly stated in
the section entitled Resolution.
Copied below in case you missed it.

I checked the Administrators password with a utility EBCD and it is set to
blank as are all other account. They all appear to be local accounts only.
It still is telling me it can't find the "eddiepc" domain. So I'm
thinking
the local machine name was changed and it is simply referring to it as a
NY style domain name. If I can't log in, I can't get the PID and can't
contact support to get the location of the HOTFIX.

I was trying the syntax eddiepc\Administrator as well as just
Administrator in case it was confused.

If it is happening with a XP Pro it would probably mean it was once
plugged
into a LAN and it was looking for Domain or local login.

From what I understand- XP home doesn't support domain logins, but
will map and request a login password to another computer ( Share type
connection).

Th XP media did not come with the computer else I would reload.

Is there a way i can reveal the real local computer name or change it ?
EBCD supposedly lets you edit the registry bu it's no easy in CLM.
