System cannot log on Domain not available

A user it trying to log into his laptop (WinXP SP2) from a
remote office and keeps getting this error:

"The system cannot log you on now because the domain
<domainname> is not available"

According to KB 824302, there's a hotfix for this
problem. But I wasn't able to install it because it turns
out the hotfix is already included in SP2.

I've also checked the registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
And found that cachedlogonscount is set it to the default
of 10.

The user was able to log in to the domain account before.
Now he can work on the local user account but all his
files and settings are set on the domain's profile. Has
anyone seen this behavior? Any advice is much appreciated.

domains.

Since he said "The user was able to log in to the domain account
before," clearly it's XP Professional.

And XP Home *can* use domain resources. It just can't join a
domain.

It's XP Pro. Any thoughts about this quandary?
