My computer died so had to buy new mobo, AMD2400XP CPU and treated myself to
new graphics card all other original components RAM, HDD etc tested on
another machine and working okay. Tried to install windows XP pro (retail
copy) but fails every time. Formats HDD okay but always gets just past
copying driver.cab and stops with the message 'cannot copy file hid.dll' it
changes every time I try sometimes hid.dll, sometimes fsvga.dll sometimes
others. Have purchased a new copy of XP home - same again. Have played with
the bios but no joy. Does anybody know what I am doing wrong??? Help me please

Set in BIOS to boot to cdrom,in BIOS install xp cd,boot to xp cd,recovery,
press enter for password, then type:DiskPart In DiskPart delete the
partition(s),
create one,then press Esc key,then type:FORMAT C: /FS:ntfs When its thru,
type:EXIT Let xp restart,reboot to xp cd,then select,install xp.This is
considered
a "clean install" by microsoft,to go one further, download the DOS utility
for the
hd by the mfg, boot to it,then zero out the drive, then run step one as
listed above.

Try a different hard drive cable and make sure to seat it firmly. Check all
other cabling for loose connections. Try using your old video card, and if
you have more than one stick of memory swap it's positions and try just one
at a time. If setup completes, reinstall the new video and add the other
memory. Also remove any other peripherals.
