Computer died. Changed mobo, fitted AMD 2400XP, new graphics card and then
tried to install XP pro upgrade (registered). Reformatted drive, loaded
files, asked for Win 98 disc - okay, started loading files got to
dvdplayer.exe (cannot find file), tried again this time stopped at
driver.cab, then kept trying but stopped at a different file every time.
Please help.

Did you use the proper cable for your hard drive? Also make sure the cables
are seated firmly into the connectors on the MB and hard drive.

I got something a bit similar when I either got the master/slave jumpers the wrong way or
the master/slave plugs in the wrong drive - I can't remember which - I made so many
mistakes!

Thanks for reply.
I have installed everything correctly, all cables seated firmly. Have been
trying over and over again. Loaded windows 98 no problem but the XP
professional upgrade refuses point blank to update, or install from scratch.
Still gettin error messages. Most common is 'cannot copy file hid.dll'. I
have altered the bios more times than I can mention and have changed Hard
drives and CD ROM twice - all to no avail. I am now lost!!!
