I am trying to install windows home. It gets as far as format which it
completes okay then when installing files it comes up time after time saying
file missing(various system files) cannot install windows. Have tried another
HDD, tried two CD Drives, tried two different Windows disks still no joy. The
BIOS looks okay boots checking RAM and devices okay. Any idea what could be
stopping Windows loading properly?

AMD 1900XP
512 MB PC2700 RAM
ASUS A7N8x deluxe
Radeon 8500 64mb video

Has the system ever run before under a different operating system? i.e. Do
you know your hardware is good?

Try running memory test to make sure you system memory is ok, I reccommend
www.memtest86.com you can create bootable floppys or CDs to run memory tests.

Have you used the WinXP Home installation CD successfully before?

This system has run XP before without a problem until it was hit by a virus.
Because of the severity of the attack we decided to reformat and reinstall.
Thats when the problem started. I am beginning to warm to the idea that all
or some of the RAM is shot. I will try memtest86.com on my other machine and
see if I can create a bootable test floppy. Many thanks for your interest and
reply - I am grateful for any help.
