Cannot Install the Genuine Windows Validation Component

H

Harmon Koeltz

I can't get this to run no matter how I change my settings. I never see the
Active X near the title bar.

TIA

Turn on Automatic Updates to make sure your system is being protected while you are
looking into the problem.
Visit the Microsoft "how to tell" website: - www.microsoft.com/howtotell
or
Two Ways to Find Out if your Copy of Windows is Genuine
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/ww/windows/default.mspx
The report explains why your system was unable to validate, and provides instructions
for further follow-up.

Thanks for the response. I have followed all the instructions in the two
articles with no luck. When I try to run the tool, The Active x warning or
prompt never appears, so I cannot proceed with the permission to let it
install.

Thanks

1. Clear out temporary IE files and cookies etc.

2. Add WU to your trusted sites -

From the main toolbar in Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet
Options.
.. Click Security.
.. Click Trusted Sites Zone.
.. Click Sites.
.. Clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check
box.
.. Use the Add button next to the Add this Web site to the zone box to add the
following sites:

https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com

Close IE and from a fresh IE window, try Windows Update again.

Thanks for staying with me. I have done everything suggested but no joy. If
it helps, I never get the Active X notification near the top of the page. I
havs run the MS diagnosticcs and everything passed except the las item which
refers to Active X. I click remedy but nothing happens.

Thanks again

If you have a Wireless Router:-
In the security tab, make sure you aren't blocking AcitveX.

Check your Firewall program to make sure you're not blocking WU there.
