Cannot delete folder after creating it

Matthew Clark

I am having a problem on certain machines in different areas where if I
create a folder in Windows Explorer on a drive mapped (H:\) remote
location, \\10.10.129.10\users\joe and try to delete it, it gives me an
error message "Error deleting file or folder, Cannot remove folder test:
cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct
path and file name." If I reboot, it MAY let me delete it. If I create
a file, and go to the command prompt and type rmdir test, it WILL delete
it. This is only on certain machines... The remote location is NOT a
windows server, it is a Novell cluster with CIFS enabled. Has anyone
seen this and knows how to fix it?

Thanks,

Matthew

i don't know about security on Novell clusters,
but on Windows XP, accounts can have different security privileges (e.g.
Create, Modify, Delete, etc.) set differently, on different machines.
did you check security settings ?
that's all i can suggest.

You'll have better luck asking in one of the Novell support forums.

Our Novell person checked the permissions and all looks fine. What is
totally bizarre is the following:

1) It is not on all machines
2) If you try to delete a folder in a window mode, it does not work.
You can hit F11 and make it full screen and delete the SAME directory
you just could not delete. This is without reboots or anything.

Any other thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks.
