CANNOT DELETE A FOLDER

I cannot delete a specific folder. Everytime i tried to delete it i received
the following message:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"ERROR DELETING FILE OR FOLDER
Cannot delete <file name>: Cannot find the specified file
Make sure you specify the correct path and file name"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The folder is empty, but i cannot delete it. I tried using Safe Mode; using
Command Prompt and killing the explorer; shift+Delete. But it's impossible.
If a delete it normaly, i cannot delete it from the Recycle Bin. Cannot
delete it sing Shift+Delete either.
Has anyone seen this and know how to fix this?Any ideas?

I have a question and two suggestion. The question is what is the full path
that leads to the folder? The suggestion is to run chkdsk with the fix
option enabled (which may require a restart of Windows XP).

You probably have a hidden file that is set to system or read only or
something like that in there. Try dropping to a prompt, going into that
folder and doing a dir with the /a switch. Or run an attrib *.* on the
folder.

I ran the chkdsk with the fix option enabled, but it wasn't a solution.
I can move the folder, change its name, everything except deleting it. There
is no restrictions to my user.(i tried using the administrator too).

You were right. But i still cannot take the attributes off. I cant delete. I
tried:
attrib -A *.*
attrib -S *.*
attrib -H *.*
attrib -A -S -H *.*
attrib -SH *.*
attrib -A -SH *.*
and other combinations. The folder has no more restrictions.
How can i delete it???

If Home Edition, boot to Safe Mode - using Administrator account.
Right Click the folder or file, Left Click Properties, Security (TAB)
and add your normal login name to ACL listing and then grant your
account name "Full Control". Reboot to normal mode and delete it.

I had this problem; [I've only had computer 1 month, sorry] but the only
thing that worked for me was to not use 'control panel' but enter 'McAfee'
control settings! believe it or not, McAfee is way powerful?

Hmm...have you tried deleting it while in safe mode, or while booted to a
MS-DOS prompt? What are the security settings on the folder? Even as the
administratior, do you have permission to delete the folder? If these
previous two ideas don't work, try this:

1. In My Computer, navigate to the folder.

2. Go to the Tools menu, click Folder Options, click the view tab, and
uncheck
"Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended)."

3. On the folder itself, right click, select Properties, then the
"Security" tab.

4. If you don't have full control already marked, change the checkmarks to
give yourself full control. Make sure you do this for all of the users or
user groups listed in the box.

Now try deleting the file. If this doesn't work, I don't know what to
suggest short of a reformat and clean install of XP, which seems like
overkill if the folder is otherwise harmless.

Once you are done, go back to tools, folder options, and recheck "Use Simple
File Sharing (Recommended)."
