Cannot boot from hard disk after phase 1 of install finished

Hello,
I have a new Maxtor 40 giga hard disk;
I want to install win2k professional on it
I made a partition of 18 Giga and
formatted it with FAT32.
Now, I started installing from win2k professional
install cd rom.
after stage 1 is finished (scanning hardware and
copying files) there appears a message from windows installer problem
that it reboots; after reboot, it hangs ; it does not
succeed to continue to next stage of installation.

I had perormed , using Maxtor utilities (PowerMax)
all HardDisk checks and all were OK; I had also performed
low level format (the advanced one) and
tried to reinstall Win2k and again the same happened.

What can be the reason ?
reagards,
sting

Are you sure all the Hardware on the sytem is COMPATIBLE with the Win2000
OS? Try installig your OS with ONLY the bare essentials on the system (i.e.
rmove all cards & hardware except CPU, MEM, VGA card)!

If that too fails check the CD-ROM or even the CD-ROM drive...the latter
could be the BAD BOY...chances are the CD-ROM drive is OLD & incompatible
with Win2000. Replace the CD-ROM Drive with another one (borrow a friend's)
& try reinstalling...

Try Removing hardware.. memory, CPU, take IDE cable off
your hard disk and motherboard and then reseat it!

The try and format you Hard disk on a NTFS partition, then
try the install, If the install doesn't work you could
have a bad copy of Windows 2000 or your CD-Rom is playing
up!

Did you check if the partition is set as active?

What do you see on the screen after POST? Any detail can be valuable in
figuring out what is - or isn't - happening.

Best regards
