Cannot activate RC1

Troy L. Martin

I now have 24 days to activate. However, when I go to activate it, I
receive a dialog-box error message:

Code: 0x8007232b (DNS name does not exist)

Apparently, the activation process has a hard-coded DNS name it is looking
for, which does not exist.

Anybody know a way around this?

I did a netmon sniff to see what DNS hostname the activation process is
looking for and found that it was looking for the following SRV record in DNS:

_VLMCS._TCP.<my company's AD domain name>

Our AD domain has no reference to this hostname. After Googling and other
search methods, I cannot find any reference to _VLMCS._TCP

My conclusion is that this is the "default" (an probably undocumented) SRV
record for the licensing server in an AD domain (not sure...just my guess).

This is apparently new to RC1, because none of the betas had this problem
(or requirement) to my knowledge.

Other than configuring a domain licensing server, anybody have any other
suggestions? What has been your "activation" experiences, particulary with
RC1?
