Can you suppress entries in a TOC?

I'm using Word 2007. I'm working on a requirements doc where there is a long
list of requirements (>100) each topped off with a heading and each with the
same two repetitive subheadings underneath. These subheadings show up in the
TOC but add no real value by being there and add many unnecessary pages to
the TOC.

Is there a convenient way to mark a heading so it doesn't appear in the TOC?

Before you start suggesting workarounds, here are alternatives that I've
considered and rejected:

1) Set the TOC to show only headings down to one level above the subheading.
I rejected this because the document contains other sections where this
level of subheading might be needed. I would prefer a solution that allows
me to selectively choose which individual headings to suppress in the TOC.

2) Create dummy styles that mimic the subheading (and thus won't show up in
the TOC). This document has numbered headings, which would be convoluted to
simulate. Also, the template comes from another group and I don't want to
muck with it too much.

Actually, you *can* use a "dummy style." Assuming that it is based on the
corresponding heading style, it will inherit the heading numbering. And to
prevent the dummy style from being included in the TOC, make sure to set its
Outline Level to "Body Text."

Alternatively, you could mark text for inclusion in the TOC. To do this,
just press Alt+Shift+O, which displays the Mark Table of Contents Entry
dialog box. Then create a TOC based on "Table entry fields." See
