Adding Space/Field Codes in Table of Contents

I'm trying to touch up a table of contents (TOC) I created.

1) I need to have a space between the heading and subheadings and I was
hoping there was field code/switch I code add to do this automatically. I
don't want to manually add spaces in the TOC if I don't have to.

Ex:
History of U.S. (heading)
(space)
1890-1900 (subheading)
1900-1950 (subheading)

2) Also, can someone tell me where I can find a list of switches that I can
use in a TOC. Ex: I just know that \n (controls pg numbering)

Thanks for your help.

Modify TOC1 and TOC2 default Styles

Level 1 TOC1 Format Paragraph Space Before/Space After (you decide on
space)
Level2 TOC2 Format Paragraph Space Before/Space After (you decide on
space)

Hope this helps.

1. Add Space Before to the TOC 1 style.

2. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TOCSwitches.htm or the Help
topic "Field codes: TOC (Table of Contents) field."

Thank you. I found where to add the spacing and thanks for the link to the
