Table of Contents

Hello,

I created a table of contents for a report and it wont recognize my section
headings. The TOC will recognize the subheadings, but not the main ones. It
initially recognized them, but the last time that I updated the TOC, they
disappeared, leaving only the subheadings. I have gone back and made sure
that all headings are formatted as "Heading 1" to no avail. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!

I can't replicate the problem without explicitly turning off Heading 1. What
version of Word do you have?

Press Alt+F9 and look at the TOC field. What does it say? The default
usually is:

TOC \o "1-3" \h \z \u

Does yours say "2-3" or something else instead of beginning at "1..."?

version of Word?

Is anything special about the H1 placement? They are not, for instance,
in a textbox?

0.2cents

It shows the default:
TOC \o "1-3" \h \z \u

Also, in response to Robert, the headings arent in a text box or anything
like that. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Check the formatting of the TOC 1 style. In particular, make sure that it
hasn't been inadvertently formatted as white or hidden text.
