Can Windows Address Book be used on a local network?

Is it appropriate to use Address Book on a local network? I'm consulting for
a doctor's office that has the following setup. They host the .wab file on a
local server and then create shortcuts to it on several other computers in
the office. They open up the .wab by double-clicking the shortcut and then
add client addresses and phone numbers. However, their .wab has become
corrupted several times (I had to restore their 4000 addresses from backup)
and they want to know if there is something inherently wrong with the way
they are using the program.

In either case, does anyone know of a BETTER solution for shared contacts in
Windows XP?

Neither OE nor Address Book are designed for such use.

A Standalone Address Book, however, might suit your needs but each user must
have a copy of the Standalone. To update it when necessary, create a brand
new one and have each user replace their old copy with it. Read all about
