Address book problem

I

ilyaz

May someone please help me with my address book?
I have Win XP Home and Office 2k. I used my address book for a long time
without any problem, it always opened in Main Identity and showed all the
addresses. However, recently, when I open it from the folder, where the *wab
file is stored, it opens in a Shared Contact empty view. Of course, all the
addresses are there and could be made visible by clicking on Main Identity.
But why do I need this extra click now? How to make this address book to
open in Main Identity again right from the first click? I'm the only
Administrator - User of this computer.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Ilya,

If I understand correctly, you are saying that you used to open your address
book from the Address Book folder in Documents and Settings/User/Application
Data/Microsoft and it would open in Main Identity, but now it opens in
Shared Contacts. When I open mine in this manner, on either one of my
machines, it also opens in Shared Contacts rather than Main Identity. You
might repost your question in the Outlook Express newsgroup and see if one
of the experts there can verify the correct behavior.

I'm curious as to why you are opening it in this manner instead opening it
from the button on the Outlook Express tool bar which will open to Main
Identity with one click, or using Start/All Programs/Accessories/Address
Book which will also open it in Main Identity?

Good luck and sorry I couldn't help.

Mike,
thanks for your suggestions. I'll repost this question in the OE group.
Meanwhile, in my case, if I open AB from the programs/accessories - it opens
in Shared. I placed shortcut on my desktop - it opens Shared. However,
you're right, from the OE it opens in Main ID. To me it's a mystery. More
so, because for a long time in the past, the AB would open in the Main ID
from anywhere...
Thanks again for your message.

You're welcome, Ilya. I hope they will be able to help you out.

Please append your post in OE6 newsgroup (to which I replied) with this

Robear,
thanks a lot for your suggestions. I'll look in the registry and the
articles.
As of identities, yes, I got more identities than I need! All sort of
problems started to pop up since, inadvertently, I created a new identity.
What's strange, this identity is NOT listed in the User Accounts, nor on the
Welcome screen, but in the Documents and Settings I got a brand new folder
for <User1.YOURxxx>. Yesterday, in the Safe Mode, I deleted this folder and
as of this morning the Address book behaves normally.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Mike,
something strange happened with my reply to you. I wrote a reply yesterday
and posted it. However, today I noticed that my replay to you was replaced
by my replay to Robear from another group... Have no idea how this happened.

Ilya,

Your reply from yesterday posted correctly for me. I'm glad to see that your
Address Book is behaving normally today.

I'd recommend checking for spyware, Ilywaz, just in case.

Dealing with Hijackware
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm#tshoot

These days most of us are recommending HijackThis to identify and assist in
the removal of these bad guys. **Post your files to the Spyware Info forum
mentioned in the first URL above, not here.**

If you cannot access the page to download HijackThis, use this link:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/hijackthis.zip

If you find you need CoolWebSearch Shredder, use this link:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/cwshredder.zip
(Get a fresh copy of CWS Shredder before each use. It's updated
frequently.)

Update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From now on,
do both daily.

YW. Neither Ad-Aware nor Spybot is worth anything if you don't seek updated
references files before each use, even "right out of the box".
