Can Ping the router but notmyself ...

Can anyone help?
I have been trying to set-up a peer to peer network with a few PCs at home.
The main one connected to the router (DrayTek Vigor 2600 ADSL) is on 2K pro
and it can ping the router but not itself (either using the IP address
assigned by the router's DHCP or on 127.0.0.1).

There are two other machines on the network, a 98 and an XP home. At first
none of the machines could see each other. Now I just ran the home network
wizard on the xp machine and it sees the other two and all three appear in
the workgroup. However if I try to open any shares (from the xp machine) by
clicking on the machine icons, I get the message that I may not have
permissions - I have just set permissions to everyone on the shares so don't
know why I would get this message or why they are not appearing.

The 2000 box pro still cannot see the the other PCs (just itself) in network
neighbourhood but since I ran that wizard on the xp machine the 2K box can
now ping the other two (and the router) but still not itself.

They are all set-up in the same workgroup and all assigned an IP address
from the router/hub. They all connect to the internet no problem but none
can yet see any shares. Any ideas on any of these aspects?

Thank you for your help

Sounds like a faulty IP stack or some weird firewall protection on
that device - ask the manufactor/vendor of the device.

IF the ping daemon answers at all, it should answer to the same
machine.

I am using the same ADSL and the problem you are having is kinda weird. I
never had a problem with mine. Just to let you know, you can backup your
current configuration and try other configs.
At the XP machine seems like your firewall is on. Disable it. Or you need to
go to advanced manu and configure it right.
