added XP to home network but doesn't ping

John

sorry for the long post byut I wanted to avoid responses
with needless questions.

I have a home network with 2 w2000 machines and a winME
all networked using TCP/IP and they play nice.

They all share a cable modem through router.

I connected the new XP machine ran the network setup, but
it doesn't see any pc on the network.
it sees (pings) the router and goes to the internet

the other machines see (ping) one another still as well as
the router and they all go to the internet.

but the XP is isolated even though it succesfully gets an
IP address from teh router.

I changed it to have a static address also (within the
range of allowed addresses in the router) but it is still
isolated.

BRIDGE is not enabled on the XP machine.

Any help I'd be grateful.

Possible: Check the workgroup name on the XP machine. The default in XP is
MSHOME. In win98 and Win2k, the default is WORKGROUP. All machines should
have the same workgroup name.

Hi All,
Can you supply and IPConfig /all from the XP system and a W2K system.
Also remember that XP system has a built in firewall, did you make sure
this was disabled? I would suggest enabling it when you are not behind
the NAT\Router.

Thanks,
