Can not get 'LexmarkX83 Printer' to install completely.

I have not been able to re-install my LexmarkX83 Printer All-In-One to my
computer.
I have had this problem since installing SP2. Before that update there was
never any problem uninstalling and reinstalling my printer which had been
working well with my Dell Dimension 4500 Series.
I last asked about this situation in Nov. 2004, here in 'Windows
accessibilty Discussion'.
Here is what I had done up till then, or since. I indeed have suffered
without my abilities of printing anything for a couple of months. Maybe I
should get, 'Go To My PC', and excess and print everything from local printer
at work!
1.) I have uninstalled and completely removed anything several times in my
'C:Drive' that had to do with Lexmark and then attempted re-installing the
software.
2.) Downloaded from Lexmark site on my own all the same troubleshooting
ideas suggested there and followed exactly what the site troubleshooter
detailed and which a Lexmark tech suggested through several days of slowly
returned answers of email support.
a. Using the 'clean utility.exe' uninstaller.
b. Drivers re-installation for the software.
c. Next suggestion was for me to try installing my printer on another
computer. I don't have access to another printer to have tried this
troubleshooting procedure or suggested step. If I had (and failed to
install), this may have been reason to replace my printer!!! I have not
printed more than 1,500 pages from this printer from my computer. It does
still copy independently without any problems.
3.) Next, I contacted Dell support. There I was instructed to use my
"Drivers and Utilities" CD. Don't remember at this time how we got to the
area with 'yellow' question marks but turns out that the CD solved that
problem with drivers, as I needed to install some Drivers that just were no
longer installed. Then when the uninstallation /reinstalllation failed I was
transfered to a 'Dell' printer specialist that basically walked me through
the very same checks. Followed by a, "Yep, can't help ya unless you
completely save everything to disk and uninstall your whole system !!!
Sir, are you ready to begin?" Not NO !!!!!! But, H......! NO !!!!
My whole computer system and all my software programs work fine. Needless
to say I am adamantly against any such thought or action of dumping and
starting fresh because I have done that with these techs 5 times over 18
months (through this past June 2004). During that time I kept telling these
people on the other side of the 'pond' that even I as a novice felt that the
hard drive was the culprit !!!! Eventually, I landed an angel that knew what
she was doing completely. She stuck with me night after night (within 15
minutes) as she promised for over a week!!!! She would patiently give me
specific instructions each evening before she left me and eventually through
a complete diagnostics check. When she called me back, I had the results that
she would listen to as I read them to her over the phone and then she agreed
with me and sent me a 'tech' to replace the hard-drive.
Well......hope there is someone here, (like Sharon F. said should be) that
helped me in the other 'Discussion Group'. She encouraged my response to tech
supports suggestion of dumping everything and reinstalling as the correct
response.
She further explained that it was so much easier for them to inconvenience
the customer than to actually remote troubleshoot and resolve many problem
situations.
I'm so needing my printing capabilities to be available again. Sharon told
me that the printer/imaging/hardware MVPs that hang out here should be able
to help me over these rough spots that are so disgustingly annoying.

Please Help ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I can't help you that much.

However, I have xp sp2 with lexmark x75 printer.

Some machines supply 6 usb slots. In actuality they are only 4 usb
slots not 6. So, if you use all six you have a problem. If you need
more than 4. Plug-in the usb hub into the four slot.

Next, I think this could also be your problem is the usb cord. I
bought a usb cord and had to exchange it.
