Can not delete messages after restore

I got a new computer and restored my files using my Carbonte backup. I had
several problems getting everything restored, and now several of the files
are full of messages that can not be found. I have like many to delete; but
when I try to delete a lot of them at once, I get an error message. I can
delete quite a few if I skip some in between. The other folders that I have
this problem with. I can just delete the folder and start over; but the inbox
I can't. The problem is, I have 31,000 messages in my inbox. I had 36,000,
worked for 4 - 5 hours and only deleted between 5-6,000. I have Window
Vista, Windows Mail, and Avira AntiVir Personal antivirus program. Any help
would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so very much!!! Carolyn:blush:)

For undeletable messages, download and install this hotfix, with Windows
Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version
of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version first.
The Vista SP1 update includes this hotfix, but takes longer to install.

Undeletable messages are often caused by interference from antivirus
programs, so if you still have any undeletable messages after applying
this hotfix, tell us whether you have ever had a Norton or McAfee
antivirus program on that computer, even a trial version.
