Although I have never tried it with AOL, the method should be the same. Try
this:

Click on START--ACCESSORIES--COMMUNICATIONS--NEW CONNECTION WIZARD

This will lauch the New Connection Wizard, click Next. Click Next on Network
Connection Type
Choose Set up my connection manually, click Next
If you are using Dial-up, click Next
Type in AOL as the ISP name.
Here is where you will place the dial up number for AOL.
Click Next. Then fill in the username and password.
Give that a shot. Like I said, I have only performed this with Bellsouth,
but it should work.

After connecting to the Internet through AOL, minimize the AOL program
and run Internet Explorer by clicking its icon on the desktop, Start
menu, or Quick Launch bar. When finished, maximize the AOL program
and use it to sign off.

I don't think that will work -- it isn't possible to log onto AOL
through a standard dial-up connection. You have to use the AOL
software.

After logging on, forget the AOL software, open Internet Explorer, and
browse using IE.

Like I stated, I have never tried that with AOL before, just with bellsouth.
I was hoping to give her another option beside using AOL's memory hogging
app.. Thanks for the insight!

Gordie, did you try my dialup connection suggestion. I would be interested
to know if you can dialup into AOL servers without their software.

If it's slow, it could be because the dial-up AOL connection is slow
or because the computer doesn't have enough CPU power or RAM to run
AOL and IE at the same time.

I'm sorry, but that's the only way to use IE with AOL dial-up.

It's true that AOL has different style icons than IE, but their
browser is actually a customized version of IE.
