Cache mode on existing users via GPO

Hi all,

We are moving to Exchange 2003 and Office 2003.
After the migration to Outlook 2003 some of the PC are still not using the
CACHED MODE.

I found an adm template and i import it to a test GPO applied to test users.
I set on it:
_______________________________________________________
Users Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Microsoft Office 2003 \
Tools - Email Accounts \ Cached Exchange Mode - "Cached Exchange Mode -
Select cached Exchange mode for new profiles - Enable"
_______________________________________________________
This is working properly, but it does not change the old profiles.

After checking again on Microsoft site i found another adm file (SP2) and
the description is changed:
_______________________________________________________
Users Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Microsoft Office 2003 \
Tools - Email Accounts \ Cached Exchange Mode - "Cached Exchange Mode -
Select cached Exchange mode for all profiles - Enable"
_______________________________________________________

This GPO does not want to apply anymore.

Any sugestions? Did anyone try this adm in this way?

GPO is the wrong tool. Microsoft uses text files with a .prf extension and a highly structured format to provide information to OUtlook that enables Outlook to create or modify a mail profile. You can create such ..prf files with the Custom Installation Wizard or Custom Maintenance Wizard tools in the Office Resource Kit. For more details, including a variety of .prf deployment methods, read the excellent white paper "Configuring Outlook Profiles by Using a PRF File" at http://office.microsoft.com/search/redir.aspx?assetid=HA011403051033&QueryID=pHm7c_60I&respos=3

The page at http://www.slipstick.com/exs/olroam.htm includes information on other profile tools and resources.

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. Worked fine on our tests. Now the files are in
production and is working fine.

I have another question: Do you think is ok to leave that GPO in place for
new created accounts and outlook profiles?

Thanks and Regards,

Yes, there's no reason not to leave that policy active if you want to always use Cached Exchange mode.
