Building a computer

Could someone give me some advise on what kinda CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive to buy. I want to have something just to play CDs and DVDs nothing
fancy . It's a computer for a class I'm taking. Also I think I know this
already but a DVD drive can play CDs right? I always stick CDs in my DVD
drive on my Dell 8300, which I'm using now, even though I have a CD/DVD
burner underneath. I'm just looking for the top part. To play and not rewrite
exactly. I want someone to upgrade it themselves or I can do it later with
better parts. Like a CD/DVD burner. Let's just get the computer running first
before putting alot of bucks into it.
Thanks Daniel

I gave you a straight answer before.

Given the price of DVD/CD drives - it is better to get one loaded with
features you may never use (but might) than to spend the same amount on one
that won't have the feeature you may need to have one day - meaning you will
have to spend money again - doubling your monetary outlay.

For Pricing/Opinions/Reviews on various products:

The first link will give you an idea of prices on computer products right
now.
The second will let you know about special deals and such going on on all
sorts of products, including computer products.
The third will let you look up most online resellers before purchasing from
them and get a ranking.
The last one will let you find out others opinions on a given product.

If all you want is a Simple CD/DVD player - buy one. Any IDE CD/DVD player
will work. Quality does matter - but once you start getting into the
quality ones, you may as well get the DVD/CD Writer combos that write and
read almost all CD and DVD types - as the price difference is so negligable
it is laughable.

Seconded and I go further to recommend AOpen for price, quality, and
warranty.

I think you hit the jackpot there since I never have used the second
DVD/CD-RW Drive on my Dell 8300. I've had my Dell 8300 over 2 years.
Smartest answer I've heard. Thanks Phillips!
