BSOD

Back on 4/29/07 I got the BSOD, but didn't copy any information - I just
restarted my laptop.
Today the BSOD happened again when I turned on the computer. It read:
"A problem has been been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.
Page_fault_In_Nonpaged_area
If this is the 1st time you've seen this stop error scree, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If
this is a new installation, ask your hardware or softwasre manufacturer for
any windows update you might need.
If problem continues, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options, such as caching or shadowing. If you
need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer,
press F8 to select Advanced Setup Options and then select Safe Mode

Technical Information
STOP oX00000050 (0xBADOB148) 0X00000000, 0x8056C77B, Ox00000000

Beginning dump of physical memory.
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further
assistance."

I have an image of the Error Signature (if needed), which shows stuff like:
"BCCode 10000050 BCP1...etc."

I am using 3 year old Gateway laptop 3.05GH2, 504 MB ram, 60 MB hard-drive,
WinXP sp2. (No new hardware.)

I ran PC-Doctor for: System Test; CPU Test; HD Test; and Modem Test and all
= Test Passed.

I also see the following line (checked) in Startup: Item: "Dumprep 0 -k,
Location: %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k"
Should that be UN-checked?

Can anyone offer any suggestions about how to correct? Is this really serious?

Hyperthreading
512MB DDR333 Memory (2x256MB)
Using AOL 9 VR (dial-up)

AliceZ:
As nass has recently informed you it might be the wisest course at this
point to take the laptop in to a (hopefully) reliable computer repair shop
in your area and let them at least diagnose the problem.

The problem you're experiencing with your laptop could be due to either a
hardware or software problem (the latter possibly due to a corrupted
operating system). The fact that the system "passed" some user-activated
"tests" is non-definitive I'm afraid.

(I'm assuming your laptop is still unbootable and that you're posting your
comments using a different computer).

But what about trying this?...

Did your Gateway laptop come with a so-called "recovery" or "restoration"
CD? If that's available could you give that a shot to see if (at the least)
you could return the laptop to a bootable functional state? (Naturally this
assumes the problem you're experiencing is not hardware-related). Keeping in
mind that even if that process was successful you would lose all or
virtually all of your user-created data and installed programs from the time
you first used the laptop. Is that a practical option in your case?

If that *is* a practical option but you don't have the recovery/restoration
media, perhaps you could contact Gateway for some assistance here.

No, the computer is not un-bootable. I am using it now. When the BSOD came-up
on 4/29/07 and again on 5/14/7, I was able to turn off the computer and then
restart it. Both times.

Hi AliceZ,
That good news, but because you will need to open the case and change things
around and you are not Ticky I suggest take the machine/Laptop to a
professional while it is Repairable and ask Him/Her before Hand what they
think and what wrong and how big the Job but don't budge on this, things can
be mystery's ( in your Laptop).
It could be just the Laptop need cleaning from Dust or testing the RAM to a
HDD going bad or Software corrupted.
HTH.

AliceZ:
Do I understand you to say that *now* your laptop is working without
problems? At least for the moment? Is that BSOD problem you've experienced
an intermittent problem?
