I am not saying you are wrong but if the advice ( see link below ) is
relevant to this users machine you do not have to have that outcome if
you select one of two options. Whether this option is available does,
however, depend on the space needed for backup and the space available
for backup.

Look at page 41 and 42 of the Manual on the end of this link:

On the support site there are quite a number of manuals so this one may
not apply to your computer.

Gateway, in common with many other OEMs, does not provide any method
of running the Windows XP Recovery Console. That is why in my
original postings on this topic I mentioned several other ways of
booting to the Windows XP Recovery Console such as using the bootable
diskettes that can be downloaded from Microsoft.
