browser take over pest

there's some sort of pest taking over my browser page upon
clicking the "e" icon to get online. an "about blank"
page keeps coming up, followed by a bunch of "your
computer is infected with spyware/adware" messages. no
matter how many times i scan with pest patrol, which
detects a "cws" pest, that i keep deleting, which keeps
showing back up the next time i get online, that "about
blank" page keeps showing up. also, everytime i keep
resetting my browser settings in the internet options tab
to my desired home page, that "about blank" page continues
to take over.
