I have lost the ability to change my browser default. The
buttons in Internet Options to change to blank, current,
etc. along with the window address are no longer active. I
am using Windows 98 SE.

JC,

If you're unable to change the Homepage (assuming that all the three buttons & text box are greyed-out), try this:

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]
In the right-pane, set the value of Homepage to "0" (or) Delete Homepage key.

If you're using Spybot S&D, click 'Immunize' tab and uncheck "Lock IE start page....." option. Change the homepage accordingly and lock it again.

Your post was right on the money, someone had downloaded
Spybot S&D to the computer and I was not aware of it.
Thanks again.
