Default Browser Question

I keep getting a Window that I don't understand. It is an IE Window that
says "Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Would you
like to make it your default browser?" I put a check in the box to Always
perform this check when starting IE and click "yes". Internet Explorer then
opens normally. But next time I open IE, I get the same message, and have to
go through it again. I don't think it happens every time, but most of the
time. In IE > Tools > Internet Options > Programs, I have a check in IE
should check to see whether it is the default browser. Should I remove that
check mark? Why does it think it's NOT the default browser? I don't have
Firefox or Opera or any other browser installed, never have. Is there
somewhere else I need to specify that IE IS the default browser? TIA.

Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults (on

Well, I thought that would do it......but it doesn't stick. I'm getting the
same message again, i.e. "Internet Explorer is not currently your default
browser. Would you like to make it your default browser?", and I've reset
Program Defaults to Microsoft several times. At first I thought there was a
problem because that panel always opens in Custom, but I found out that's
the default. Bottom line, I'm still getting the message that IE isn't the
default browser. I've selected Microsoft on the CP > Add or Remove > Set
Program Access or Defaults, and I have a check in "Always perform this check
when starting IE". Should I just remove that check?

Larry,

See if this REG file helps.

Set IE as the default browser (for Windows XP only)
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/IE_Default_Browser.reg

Assumes that IE is installed in its default location (C:\Program
Files\Internet Explorer).

Ramesh, No, it didn't seem to help. I still get the "Internet Explorer is
not currently your default browser....." message the first time I try to
open IE after a reboot. So far, nothing has helped, I'm still where I was
when I originally posted. Got any more suggestions? Anybody? Thanks
