I finally resolved my infinite trouble!!! :):):):):):)
It was a version of emule (p2p software)!
I installed the new one (but the 0.30e pawcio mod) and now it it takes quite
long to colse and shutdown but hangs no more!!!
However thank you for support!
Godd bye!

Hi Francesco,

I do a lot of instant messaging. Because I know people who use ICQ,
Yahoo!, MSN and AOL, I use Trillian as my Instant Messenger.
I have ZoneAlarm configured to allow Trillian to receive and send files.

It takes some reading to work out how to set up your firewall, but it is
truly needed in this day and age. The first program
that I install on a new computer is ZoneAlarm then Norton Anti-virus. Once
that is done, then . . . and only then do I connect

I must correct....
The problem is still here...
This must be an usb trouble: ther's no more to check...

Delete ALL temp files. Delete temporary internet files including offline content and cookies from Internet Explorer options. Especially delete the contents of your actual temp folder. The temp folder is located at C:\Documents and Settings\"user profile"\Local Settings\Temp. Good luck

i have had this problem exactly as you describe for 5 months now - exactly the time i got broad band, i think its to do with the software they send you to install the usb modem... mines from BT. The software buggers up network components in windows xp and i updated windows xp with updates so hopefully SP2 out soon will fix it. However i think i finally found a fix get registry mechanic 2.1 and repair your entire registry and its fixed it ... .after all this time just when i was thinkning of reformatting. The problem it fixed specifically was i couldnt disconnect from internet the icon in taskmenu (bottom right) just locked and froze my pc, if i shutdown it hangs on saving settings .....

good luck to anyone who knows why my pc has been brutally turned off at the switch for 6 months :( but its been workign last few days so ill cross my fingers

ok that didnt work same old system lockinh when i look at network settings or try and disconnec
looks like a reformat is in order - bloody hp computers dont come with windows cd so reformatting sucks
