I was using windows XP pro and I tried to reformat and reinstall, but I fell
asleep during formatting. When I woke up my computer screen was blank. I
restarted and all I could get to besides BIOS was a blank screen. So I tried
to boot from the XP cd and reinstall but it says setup is inspecting hardware
configuration and again goes to a blank screen.
Could this be my hdd? I tried with my normal system except for an old spare
hdd and windows on that hdd loaded and the setup cd also worked...

Kel, if you mean that you just swapped hard drives and the new drive
worked fine then Yes it could be the drive.
What I would try is go here www.bootdisk.com and get a Win98 boot
disk. Then go into the Bios and set the
floppy as first boot device. Boot with the newly created 98 disk and
when you get to the A:\ type: fdisk /mbr
then next type: format C: and just follow the instructions. Then try
the WinXP CD again.
