BSOD and boot issues

Brinner

My PC is currently caught in a loop of BSOD's when I try to boot up,
it starts loading windows and I get a flash of a BSOD and it reboots.
No idea what the error actually is because it reboots too quickly.

The first thing I decided to try was to stick in the installation CD
and I was going to try and do a repair from there. For some reason I
can't understand the PC will not boot from the CD but tries to start
windows each time. I checked the boot config in setup and the first
preference is CD. I disconnected my primary HDD and it boots from the
CD fine, but thats not a lot of use to me.

My primary HDD is a 500gig Samsung SATA drive. I am not running RAID
or any fanciness like that.

If I can get it to boot from the CD with the primary HDD connected I
think I can deal with anything from there, can anyone help at all?

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Tap the F8 key just before Windows start to load and disable Automatic
Restart on System Failure and see if you can get useful information from
the BSOD. From the F8 boot option screen try to boot to the Last Known
Good Configuration, if you cannot boot to LKGC try booting to Safe-Mode.

You need to post a copy of the Stop Error (BSOD) report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.

In setup I have "wait for F1" on error enabled, but it makes no
difference.

I have tried booting in safe mode, no use. I stops with a message
"press escape to to cancle loading SPTD.sys and then reboots''.

I can boot from the CD now, by pressing F8, I tried running the repair
console, but nothing changed.

I still get BSOD while windows is loading.

Thanks again.

F1 is not the right key and you are not pressing F8 at the right time,
start tapping the F8 key just after the BIOS information screens, just
before Windows starts to load.

F8 gets me into setup.

In setup, the only thing I can find relating to errors is "wait for F1
on error: enabled"

You are pressing the key too early!

You are pressing the F8 key too early! That is why you are going to the
BIOS setup options. When the computer boots wait for the BIOS and POST
information screens to pass then start tapping the F8 key.

Start a new thread and post a complete copy of the Stop Error report.
You only cause confusion when you hitch a ride in someone elses
conversation. Your error sounds different to the problem the other
person has!

Is there data you need to recover? If yes you need to remove the drive
and place it in another computer as a second or slave drive.
Alternatively you can place it in an external cradle connected to
another computer.

Otherwise your options seems to be limited to what you can do via the
recovery console. You can run chkdsk and look at the fix boot options.
