new system and BSOD on install

My friend had a windows xp professional system, wga, sp2 on an 80Gb WD Caviar
5400rpm IDE drive.

He bought some new components which include ;
intel core 2 duo e6850 cpu
MSI p35/g33 neo mobo
inno 3d gts 8800 overclocked gfx card.
2 gigs of veritech DDR2 6400 ram

He backed up his system, installed his new components and turned on his pc
only to receive the BSOD message during boot up of windows.

0x0000007e ( 0xc0000005 0x8080709a oxf78da300 )

Starting up in safe mode only resulted in a very quick BSOD and a system
restart.

Trying to either repair or reinstall from CD only results in the same
message once the system files have been loaded.

We hooked the IDE HDD up to another pc and used WD's lifeguard tools to wipe
it clean and then tried doing a fresh install of windows.. same BSOD in the
same place.. straight after the system files have been loaded.

We have checked that all cards, cables and connectors are firmly seated.
The system is stripped down and does not have any usb peripherals installed.
RAM is installed in slots 1 and 3 ( or dimm 1a and dimm 1b according to mobo
manufacturers advice )

Any and all advice appreciated.

I had the same problem, and it turned out to be a memory problem.

Mike
we checked each stick of memory in this system and in a completely different
but 100% working system. one stick was slightly dodgy perhaps, but no it
doesnt seem to be a memory issue in this case.
But thanks for the reply :)
