booting up

I am experiencing problems when booting up . On average
it is taking anywhere from up to 3-4 mins to get windows
xp up and running. This is from the time I switch on to
when the choice of user page appears.
Can anyone confirm what needs to be present on the
startup tab in msconfig.I have been advised this could
slow boot up time down if items are present that do not
need to be there.
Any info appreciated

It varies, because the manufacturers tend to add bits on
to the standard XP installation, some of it useful, some not.
Each brand has something different.

It's up to you to do the research. Find out what is running
on your PC, then you'll be in a position to decide if you want it
or not.
There's no shortcut to this.

I would suggest the following:

Go to the run command and type the following: msconfig

When the system configuration tool opens under
the "general" tab, choose "selective startup" and then
uncheck the "load startup items". Hit the apply button
and reboot.

This will only load required Windows system files when
your system reboots and exclude every other program that
you have installed on your PC. This will at least rule
out a Windows problem and point you to an installed
application that is causing this issue.

Good luck.
